St. John High School Washington DC Trip 2021 – Day 4

August 3, 2021—We were up early, packed up, and had breakfast at the hotel before boarding our bus for our final day here. We had two stops today before heading back to the airport.

Our first stop was at Mount Vernon. This beautiful estate in Fairfax County, Virginia, overlooks the Potomac River and was the historic home of America’s first president, George Washington. (click on pictures for the full-size version)

During our visit, we learned a lot about George and Martha Washington and what life was like living here at that time in history. (Pictures from inside the house and museum)

After visiting Mount Vernon, we stopped at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, which houses the world’s most extensive collection of aviation and space artifacts. This was a cool stop, and I would like to come back when I have more time to spend here, as our time was limited since we had to get to the airport for our flight home.

Once our short visit to the museum was complete, we boarded the bus for a quick ride back to Dulles International Airport. We made it back to Wichita around midnight and pulled back into St. John around 1:45 am.

This trip was a jam-packed four days, but I think everyone had a great time, got to experience new things, and made new friends. It was an incredible experience that the kids will hopefully remember for a lifetime.
