October’s “Not So Scary” Food and Fun Trip – Day 2
This morning the kids decided they wanted to sleep in after our long day yesterday. While they were sleeping, I got up and walked over to Disney Springs to grab an iced coffee from Starbucks. I slowly made my way back to the resort, where I found a rocking chair in a quiet place overlooking Disney Springs to relax and enjoy my coffee.
When I got back to the room, around 10:30, Riley and Jess were finally getting around, so once they got ready we headed to Epcot. I was able to snag a Virtual Queue for Guardians of The Galaxy, and it was called just before we got into the park so we headed there first.
After riding Guardians, we were hungry, and since Food and Wine Fest is going on we decided to grab lunch from some of the kiosks. We started at Connections Eatery, as Riley wanted to the the Liege Waffle, which isn’t something special for Food and Wine, but it was on Riley’s must try list. It was also pouring rain at this point, so this was a great location to sit for a bit to stay dry.
Next we stopped at The Fry Basket for Jess to pick up an order of the Pickle Fries, and a beer for me. Then, I grabbed the Smoked Corn Beef and we headed to the Brew-Wing Lab at the Odyssey (which has been transformed into the Muppet Labs for the festival) to eat our food and try the Pickle Milkshake, which was something we all wanted to try. It was interesting to say the least. Jess didn’t like it at all, but Riley and I both agreed it was OK. The initial taste was pretty good but the aftertaste was not so great….Think sweet milkshake with an aftertaste of pickles….But it was one of those things that you had to take several drinks of to decide. It was a little sweet for my taste and we only were able to finish about half of it before giving up. I definitely won’t be getting that one again, but glad we tried it.
It was pouring rain again, so we sat inside the Odyssey Building until it let up, then headed around the World Showcase. We stopped in Mexico and rode The Three Caballeros, then continued our loop around World Showcase in the rain.
Once we made it around, we decided we should go to Magic Kingdom, as Riley wanted Casey’s Corner for dinner. We arrived at Magic Kingdom around 4 pm and it was a madhouse outside the gates. Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party was going on tonight, and with your party ticket you can get in as early as 4 p.m., so there was a huge crowd waiting for entry….Pro-tip: If you are going to the party and wanting to enter at 4pm with just the party ticket plan to get there extra early to be near the front of the line so you actually get in at 4….Since we were entering as day guests, once we got past the masses of people we were able to enter the park quickly. Once inside the gates, we headed to Sunshine Tree Terrace for Riley and Jess to get a Dole Whip Orange Cup. Then we checked out the Tangled-Themed Bathrooms, rode It’s A Small World, and the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, before picking up our corndog nuggets and fries at Casey’s Corner. Since the park was closing early (6p.m.) for the Halloween party, we headed back to the resort to relax for a while
This evening we walked over to Disney Springs to do a little shopping. Around 9, I headed back to the resort, while the kids stayed to wander around and get a late-night snack. They made it back to the room around 10:30. Tomorrow the plan is to sleep in and enjoy the resort before we go to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party for the evening.
